Sunken Oval Outdoor Play Space

Important Attributes

AIM: on the primary (upper) campus sunken oval, remove existing garden beds and water tank and create a large, open and safe outdoor playing space.

PURPOSE: increase the outdoor playing area for Toowong State School children during first and second breaks, formerly recess and lunch respectively. Provide temporary relief and restore some of the outdoor space the school has lost over the past few years. In recent years the school experienced:

  • 50% increase in student enrolments in 6 years (249 in 2015 increase to 374 in 2020)
  • 28% decrease in outdoor playing space in 3 years (46% of campus in 2018 down to 18% in 2020)

LOCATION: existing "sunken oval" area next to the school hall, the north-western corner of the upper campus, along the Quinn Street boundary edge.

PROJECT MANAGER: Department of Education, Education Queensland in association with Toowong State School and the Toowong State School Parents and Citizens Association (P&C).

BUDGET: guesstimate $100K - $200K

COMPLETION: guesstimate April 2021 (Easter school holiday break)
